Money and Me

Know where you stand with money and where you want to go

Before you can manage your money better, you need to be honest about where it goes right now. This is not about judging yourself. Everyone has money strengths and money habits they want to change. This module is about knowing yours.

Managing money is a skill, not a personality trait you are born with. You can get better at it with practice, the same way you get better at anything else.

Key Concepts

Money flow

Money coming in and money going out. Every dollar you receive goes somewhere. The question is whether you are choosing where it goes or just watching it disappear.

Money leaks

Small, regular spending that adds up without you noticing. Data top-ups, snacks, small loans to friends that never come back. These are money leaks, and they are fixable.

Needs vs wants

A need is something you must have to live or work: food, transport, tools for your business. A want is something that would be nice but you can survive without.

Peer and family pressure

Being asked for money by friends or family is real pressure. It is okay to have a limit. You can care about people and still have a plan for your own money.

Your money strengths

You already have financial skills, whether you know it or not. Being reliable, resourceful, knowing how to earn and create value, saving when it matters. These are strengths you can build on.

Practical Tip

Write down every dollar you spend for one week — even the smallest amount. At the end of the week, look at your list. The leaks will show themselves.
